QUESTION: My Garage door is stuck in the up position. When I push the down button on both the portable and mounted controls, it starts to go down and returns to the up position. What do I need to do and is there anyway to bypass the control and bring my door down until I can fix it? by Milton S 1/8/2015
ANSWER: To get the door closed for now you can do in manually. There should be a pull cord attached to a clamp on the chain. Just pull it down and you can move the door manually open or closed.

This can be re-attached by moving the clamp back to the connector you removed it from on the chain. Just push the lever back up opposite of disconnection.

As for the part I ordered it worked fine but turns out it wasn't the underlying problem it wasn't very expensive and now I have a spare. The issue was a short somewhere in the wiring going through the ceiling. I tested with two short wires running from the controller to the back of the main motor/door opener. It worked fine from there. Replaced the wiring and fixed the issue. My door would just go up and down on its own or just not work at all before the fix.

There are light codes on the back of the main motor. They indicated a short. It pays to read the directions for your garage door which they likely have a copy of linked to this site in pdf. It will tell you what the light codes mean on the back of the garage door motoer/opener. by Richard K a
