COMMENT: Wanted a clean and strong mount that was designed to work in conjunction of the Liftmaster 3950 Jacshaft Door opener. by Sven E 2/23/2017
QUESTION: I noticed there is also another bracket available 3950-41DS for dead shaft doors. My door is a 10x10 dead shaft. Do i need that instead? Is it mandatory? What does it do different?
Thanks by stanhastheplan s 2/3/2015
ANSWER: I believe the 3950-41DS is a sprocket for the chain. It should come with the 3950 Liftmaster. The 3950MB mounting bracket makes installation easy any makes for a very stable installation. On my roll-up door the bracket mounts to the side of the channel that the door travels in and also to the C-channel that makes the door frame. The Liftmaster mounts to the wide part of the bracket to pre drilled holes in the bracket. This bracket is much better than the 4 small mounting legs that come with the unit. by Lindy A a
ANSWER: I don't know about the other option but the 3950MB works very well. It would be very hard to install the opener with out a mounting bracket. This one bolts to the opener and spaces the opener just rite to line up with the sprocket on the door which is criticle.
Good luck. by Terry T a
ANSWER: Bracket made install easier. I have a Carolina Carport garage with sheet metal skin. Nothing solid to mount to. Bracket mounted to door post. My only problem was aligning predrilled sprocket holes with the deadshsft holes. Worked that out door operates nicely. by Michael C a

ANSWER: Stan, The bracket was recommended to me by another online shopper that had already used before. I personally liked having it, it sets the opener off of the wall and made the mounting easy. The opener comes with 4 little L-shaped brackets that will get the job done. But drywall behind it would require at least 2X 2X4's horizontally between 2 vertical studs to screw the 4 little brackets to. I would recommend it. I thought it worked real nice. by Mariel K a

ANSWER: Not necessarily. It depends on how you plan to mount your unit. You can mount in on plywood if you have a supported flat surface to bolt to. I just bought this bracket because it made the installation a whole lot easier. by Robert O a
