Safety is extremely important for any gate operator. When it comes to the most recent operators that are UL325 2016 rated, they can require anywhere from two up to eight forms of entrapment protection. A monitored safety edge is a perfect solution to this requirement. LiftMaster has come out with a large profile monitored safety edge that comes in three different lengths: 4 feet long (L504AL), 5 feet long (L505AL), and 6 feet long (L506AL). These sensing edges are perfect for LiftMaster’s swing and slide gate operators. The sensing edges are intended to be mounted on the vertical face of the gate. New UL325 2016 requirements include having an entrapment device in the open and closing travel directions. This means a safety device needs to be placed where the gate rests when closed as well as where its travel ends during operation.
LiftMaster’s sensing edges can be hardwired into the operator, or be paired with the LMWEKITU Monitored Wireless Edge Kit. This kit comes with a receiver that wires directly into the operators control board, and a transmitter which installs on the gate near the edge. The build in lead wire from the edge will wire into the transmitter. When the safety edge meets an obstruction, the pressure sensitive device sends a signal to the operator or wireless edge kit that stops travel, and reverses the travel direction.
