UL325 2016 safety standards require gate operators to have at least two safety devices that guard entrapment areas. This helps the gate to identify obstructions in the travel path and prevent damage to the gate or pedestrians in the area. North Shore Commercial Door knows that getting a safety edge to properly fit your swing or slide gate isn’t always the easiest task. Each gate is a different length or height, and sometimes you need solution that can be tailored to that application. The LiftMaster S50-KIT is a complete safety edge kit that can be put together on the go!
The S50-Kit comes with an 82 foot roll of the Small Edge Profile, 10 pairs of end cap kits, and channels that are determined by the customer at the time of purchase. There are two options available: L50CHAL 10 foot Aluminum retainer (8-Pack), or L50CHP 8 Foot Plastic Retainer (10 Pack).
Assembling the safety edge is a breeze! Customers just need to measure the length of the gate face they are installing the edge on (horizontal or vertical), and cut the edge to size. Next are the end caps. Each end cap pair comes with 2 clips, two end caps, and two contact plugs (one wired cap and one non wired). To install the end caps, take the contact plugs and insert them into the center of the edge profile with the resistive strip on each end. Then, place the end caps over the edges of the profile and secure them in place using the clips.
When installing the newly assembled safety edge it is important to know that it can be installed two ways: hardwired, or wireless. The wired contact plug comes with 39 inches of 2-wire cable that enables the edge to operate. This cable either hardwires into the operator’s control board, or can be installed into the transmitter of LiftMaster’s LMWEKITU Monitored Wireless Safety Edge Kit.
