Extension Springs from North Shore Commercial Door are designed to make the operation of 11-foot overhead doors smoother and safer by effectively counterbalancing the door's weight. These springs are installed using heavy-duty S-hooks that attach to stationary brackets, which support the horizontal garage door tracks from the ceiling. One end of the spring connects to the bracket, while the other is secured to a safety cable and pulley assembly attached to the door.
As the garage door closes, the springs extend, reducing the load and slowing the descent. When opening, the springs retract, helping to lift the door into the horizontal position. Once the door is fully open and resting on the tracks, the initial tension in the springs holds it securely in place. Each spring is color-coded according to the door weight it supports, ranging from 100 to 300 pounds. Extension springs are available for doors measuring 7 to 12 feet in height.

Additional Information:
To select the appropriate extension springs, it's important to determine the door weight and height. Springs are color-coded for easy identification based on door weight. If the color code is unclear, you can weigh the door using the following method:
- Raise the door completely and disconnect the power and lifting arm of the garage door opener.
- Secure the door with "C" clamps or vice grips under the bottom rollers.
- Disconnect the springs from the track support.
- Carefully lower the door by hand, using multiple people if necessary, as the full weight of the door may need to be managed.
- Place a bathroom scale under the door’s center to measure the weight. If the door exceeds the scale’s capacity, use two scales with a 2x4 to distribute the load, then combine the results to get the total weight.
