ANSWER: Yes this is round - There is a fixed round piece that goes through the structure and is held in place by a locking nut from the inside in my case I have it actually mounted up high on the door, When you unlock the key the cord pulls free through the housing and you disengage the emergency cord release on the opener shuttle. simple and easy. by Thomas E a
QUESTION: ? how does the garage door opener external release work by None N 8/12/2013
ANSWER: One end of the cord is tied to the emergency release on motor unit / shuttle. The other is tied to the Key Lock. The Key Lock housing is mounted to the door someplace High and out of the way. The cord is tied to the key lock itself on the inside. When you unlock the release it pulls out, along with the cord. A pull on the cord and the emergency release on the shuttle is activated and you can then open the door manually. <br />If you think of it - if the release lock is mounted to the door - as the door open / closes it really does not move. you need a bit of slack 4 inches or so so that as the door open / closes you always have slack - and you need a couple of inches when you pull out the Key lock from the housing. by Thomas E a
