Is the Genie Company a Good Brand?

The company takes pride in being an industry leader in innovative technology, from creating the first mass-produced, radio-controlled residential garage door opener in the 50s, to the smart home technology the company continues to improve upon today. What is a Universal Keypad?

Universal keypads are keyless entry systems that control most major garage door opener brands in the industry for maximum convenience, including Genie, LiftMaster, Wayne Dalton, and more! Genie’s universal keypad is rolling code and dip switch capable, and can operate one or multiple doors! They’re also designed for easy programming out of the box.

Genie Wireless Keypad Overview:

  • An audible beep will sound with every key pressed.
  • The wireless keypad will operate up to 3 doors with one PIN number.
  • A temporary PIN can be set for convenient non-user access.
  • Do not press the LEARN button for longer than the noted 2-3 seconds as it could cause the operational remotes to no longer work.
  • Uses 2x AAA batteries. Batteries can be accessed by removing the battery cover on the front lower portion of the universal wireless keypad.

How to Install Genie Universal Keypads?

STEP 1 - FIND SPECIFICATIONS & LEARN/PROGRAM BUTTON

  1. Locate the brand and opener/receiver specifications for the device by checking the label on the opener/receiver, the instructions manual, the current remote controls for the opener, or the original manufacturer.
  2. Find the LEARN/PROGRAM button on the device. The shape, color, or name of this button could vary by brand. For garage door openers, check under the light covers. For commercial openers, this button may be located on the circuit board or the opener. In some cases, this button could also be on an external receiver that is mounted on or near the product. Check the device’s manual if needed.

Below are the brands and specifications that Genie’s universal keypad is compatible with. Find the ID# in Chart A below that references your specific opener’s specification. You will need this number during programming. Refer to STEP 1 to find the type and/or LEARN/PROGRAM button.

All dip switch models are noted with an asterisk*. After STEP 2 in these instructions, skip to the segment on Dip Switch Instructions for the Universal Keypad.
